Local historian Ruth E. Lambert will give a virtual presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday hosted by Pine River Library.
Lambert will discuss the history of Hispano Catholic churches along the San Juan River in Archuleta County and southeastern La Plata County. Her presentation will cover the churches at Juanita, Trujillo, Pagosa Junction, Allison and Tiffany.
Lambert is currently assembling historical information from research materials, church records, genealogical data and interviews with knowledgeable people, collecting historical documents and photographs, and documenting the churches through field recording and photographs.
Lambert is also working with members of the Tiffany church (Iglesia de San Antonio) to preserve the church, which was listed on Colorado’s Most Endangered Places List for 2019 and was recently listed on the La Plata County Register of Historic Places.
This program is part of History Live!, a series of events celebrating the humanities in September in Southwest Colorado.
