Pine River Library to host Zoom program about Native American sacred places

Pine River Library will host a virtual program with Andrew Gulliford from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Gulliford is a writer, historian and recent recipient of the 2019 Colorado Book Award, with deep ties to the American West. He is also a professor at Fort Lewis College. He will speak about topics covered in his book about sacred Native American sites, “Sacred Objects, Sacred Places.”

Gulliford traveled thousands of miles over a 10-year period to meet and interview tribal elders, visit sacred places and discuss the power of sacred objects in order to present the essential debates surrounding tribal historic preservation.

Gulliford will also offer an update about the cultural and legal issues surrounding Bears Ears National Monument in southeast Utah. Comments and questions will be taken after the program.
