Winter can be a slow time, but Bayfield and Ignacio are showing no signs of the winter doldrums, and instead, they have a busy list of talks, workshops and activities planned for February.
Here’s a list of just some of the programs and events taking place this month in the Pine River Valley.
At the “Ranching with Predators on the Landscape Workshop,” ranchers and community members can munch on snacks while discussing predator reintroduction in Colorado and how they might be impacted.
The free workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the SunUte Community Center, Capote Room, on the Southern Ute Indian Tribe Reservation. Community members will hear from a ranch manager, livestock producer and a wildlife biologist with 70 years of related experience.
They will discuss management options, strategies to reduce predator-livestock conflict, increasing ranch resilience and understanding predator behavior. The workshop is a collaboration between Spruce Ranching Cooperative, Anderson Ranch, Working Circle and Defenders of Wildlife.
The 2020 Great Decisions International Affairs Discussion program is connecting Bayfield to a world of issues.
The program, which is starting its first year in Bayfield, includes eight sessions, all on different topics. The meetings, which are free and open to the public, are held every other week on Thursdays from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
On Feb. 12, community members can discuss and learn about China’s road into Latin America. On Feb. 26, they will discuss security in the Red Sea region.
The subjects are presented to Great Decisions groups annually by the Foreign Policy Association, which prepares a briefing book, a teacher’s guide and a DVD about the topics.
