Scorched by the enemy's Swede, the Bobcats still nearly found a way to burn Pagosa Springs goalkeeper Diana Scott Tuesday afternoon for their first goal in the 2016 season.
But having already snared junior Shyla Jackson's initial attempt in the 19th minute of 3A/2A Southwestern League action at IHS Field, Scott correctly guessed where Jackson would-if the opportunity arose-put her follow-up. And with a well-timed slide to her right, Scott stopped Jackson's prime effort in the 48th, preserving what ended up a 9-0 win-leaving Ignacio's girls even hungrier for a score than last weekend in Alamosa and Center.
Blanked 10-nil by both San Luis Valley sides, IHS (0-6, 0-6 SWL) appeared ready to do battle with the Pirates, even after foreign-exchange junior Alma Sigurdsson atoned for her sixth-minute miss over senior Gibran Silva's crossbar with a conversion in the seventh for a 1-0 PSHS lead.
But Pagosa Springs (6-2, 6-1) picked up steam after senior Olivia Reinhardt marked in the 23rd and Sigurdsson struck again in the 25th, and the wind in Ignacio's sails was further stilled when an attempted clearance of a Reinhardt shot inside the goal box was booted straight past Silva for an own-goal in the 29th.
Sigurdsson completed her hat trick in the 34th, increasing the visitors' halftime advantage to 5-0. She netted her fourth goal of the match in the 51st, and banged in a deflected Reinhardt free kick in the 63rd to finish a five-goal showing.
Additionally, freshman Morgan Thompson snuck in a goal in the 57th, and junior Addie Thompson polished off the conquest in the 77th.
Silva finished with 18 total-shots and other-saves unofficially, while Scott was forced to make three against an IHS attack led by Jackson, junior Tori Archuleta and sophomores Chamisa Edd and Namichen Oberly.
Sigurdsson also had an assist, as did soph Alyssa Lewis, Addie Thompson and junior Hayley Mitchell.
SWL play continues for the 'Cats this weekend, with Ridgway visiting this afternoon for a 4 p.m. kickoff, and Ignacio then traveling to Telluride tomorrow for an 11 a.m. start. Bayfield then comes to town for a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday, April 19.
