Planned Parenthood’s Durango Health Center is officially reopening later this month, according to a Friday news release from Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.
The center temporarily shut down in September 2024 in what Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains President and CEO Adrienne Mansanares called “a direct consequence of the escalating national health care crisis, driven by severe provider shortages and relentless political attacks on reproductive rights.”
The center continued to serve patients through its Virtual Care Center and community health programs during its yearlong in-person closure. It will officially reopen Oct. 20 at 46 Suttle St., and will begin taking appointments Oct. 6, the release said.
The center will initially be open only Mondays and Tuesdays, with plans to expand hours pending recruitment of an additional nurse practitioner, the release said.
According to Mansanares, the reopening – occurring during what she called in the release a “moment of national political uncertainty and transition” – was made possible in large part by community support and advocacy efforts.
“Community support has not only made this reopening possible, it has reaffirmed that access to high-quality, affordable reproductive and sexual health care is a shared priority,” Mansanares said in the release. “Planned Parenthood has been a part of this community since the 1970s, and we’re honored to continue serving Durango. This reopening is a testament to what’s possible when a community stands up for care, and for each other.”
