Playoff ticket prices explained

Why are playoff tickets so expensive?

It was a question a Bayfield football mom - with several children who wanted to watch their big brother play Saturday - asked on our facebook page.

Prices for all playoff games are set by the Colorado High School Activities Association and cost $8 for adult admission, $5 for students (K-12) and seniors (65+). Children 4 and under get in for free.

in an email to the Times, Rob Dean, activities director at Bayfield High School, explained how the money is used:

"CHSAA gets 10 percent of the receipts.

As the host school, we pay for Manitou's travel expenses, following the formula set by a CHSAA committee. That totaled $2,010.

We pay our game personnel, to a maximum of $400. With all of the people working the game for BSD, the total was more than $400 but we can only be reimbursed that amount, per CHSAA guidelines.

The officials were paid a total of $411.80 (officials fees and travel expenses, set by CHSAA).

The balance after these expenses are split: 15 percent to Manitou, 15 percent to Bayfield, 70 percent to CHSAA

If there is no balance, then we as the host school would cover the costs. Fortunately, we had a great crowd on Saturday and were able to cover the costs and had a balance left over."
