As respected stakeholders in our community, we are seeking your support on Ballot Question 2A (in the city) and Ballot Question 4A (in the county).
We are requesting a 2.5 mill increase to address your fire district’s highest priority quality of service and response. We are your emergency response agency, and it’s going to take a majority vote from all of us, city and county, to pass this measure.
Increasing call volume, the Gallagher and TABOR amendments (and other factors), have required us to continue to rely on reserves. This funding strategy is not sustainable. To maintain emergency medical and fire services – including protecting response times – the Durango Fire Protection District is placing this mill levy question on the November 2017 ballot. Proceeds of this mill levy will be used to address the following needs:
Sustaining and improving service levels in the face of increasing demands from the community; Attracting and retaining experienced emergency responders, and mitigating costly turnover rates;Replacing outdated, unreliable front-line emergency response apparatus and equipment to better protect residents, businesses and emergency responders; Addressing critical health/life safety issues and extending the useful life of existing fire stations. DFPD and the board of directors have worked hard to be prudent with taxpayer dollars, including deferring critical facility maintenance projects. As your elected officials, we are urging you to support your fire department.
Please support the services that serve you in times of need!
