A Durango man was being held Friday in police custody on suspicion of drunken driving and being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police arrested Sandoval Stanford, 28, after a short foot pursuit in the Crestview neighborhood in west Durango.
The incident began about 3:15 p.m. when a driver reported a possible drunken driver on Junction Creek Road (County Road 204), northwest of Miller Middle School.
Police caught up with the vehicle near western city limits and ran the license plate, which came back belonging to a 2000 gray Cherokee reported stolen in La Plata County, said Lt. Ray Shupe, spokesman for the Durango Police Department.
An officer stopped the vehicle in the 2300 block of Glenisle Avenue, but the driver jumped out and ran on foot, Shupe said. Officers caught up with him after a short chase, he said.
No formal citations had been filed as of late Friday.
