Man found dead with gunshot wound at Spanish Trails Inn & Suites

A Durango man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday at a motel in north Durango, according to law enforcement.

The shooting death was reported at 2:18 p.m. at Spanish Trails Inn & Suites, 3141 Main Ave., said Cmdr. Ray Shupe, spokesman with the Durango Police Department.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

“Everything that we have is pointing to self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Shupe said about 6 p.m. Monday.

The victim was identified as Zephin Martinez, 27, of Durango.

The man’s brother was at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
