Police kill person who stole officer’s car in Denver

DENVER – Denver police shot and killed a person after they say the victim stole a police officer’s vehicle and pointed a rifle at officers.

Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said the incident Monday began when a carjacking was reported to police.

Pazen said while a responding officer was chasing a suspect on foot, the person managed to commandeer a police vehicle and fled.

He said a short chase ensued and ended with the suspect pointing a rifle, which may have been taken from inside the police vehicle, at officers, prompting at least one officer to fire on the suspect.

Pazen said he did not know how many shots had been fired or whether the suspect fired.

No information about the victim was immediately released, and the incident remains under investigation.
