The Durango Police Department arrested three suspects Tuesday in connection with thefts from the men’s locker room at the Durango Community Recreation Center.

Durango police responded to multiple thefts of unsecured lockers over the course of two days.

Lt. Ray Shupe, spokesman with the Durango Police Department, said officials started receiving reports Monday. Five victims have reported thefts during the two-day period, he said.

The suspects were identified as Danielle Grace Manzanares, 25; Jose Phillip Gallegos, 25; and Ronald Lee Powell Jr., 30. Rec center staff members first identified them on the center’s surveillance video. They were recognized later after re-entering the facility Tuesday evening. Employees immediately notified police, and officers responded shortly after.

When officers arrived, they arrested two of the suspects. The third fled on foot and was later found with the help of the parole office in Durango.

Officials conducted a search at the Spanish Trails Inn and Suites where the trio was staying. Police recovered several items of stolen property. Police have additionally recovered unreported stolen items and are urging the public to contact central dispatch at 385-2900 if they have been the victim of a recent rec center locker-room theft.

Manzanares, of Durango, was arrested for conspiracy to commit theft, a Class 2 misdemeanor. Her bail was set at $500. Jose Phillip Gallegos, also of Durango, was arrested for theft and parole violation. No bail was set. Powell, a Pagosa Springs resident, was arrested for theft, a Class 1 misdemeanor. His bail was set at $1,500.

The suspects are being held at the La Plata County jail.
