HOBBS, N.M. – A New Mexico man is facing charges after police say he was arrested for drunken driving and threw his clothes at an officer.
The Hobbs News-Sun reports Alonso Martinez of Eunice was taken into custody after a traffic stop in Hobbs over suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
According to police, an officer found an open container of Michelob Ultra in the car’s center console. When asked how many beers Martinez had, a report said he told the officer he has about “50-70” beers.
Martinez then allegedly told the officer in Spanish that if he had a weapon, he would have killed him already.
Police say Martinez was taken to Hobbs City Jail to detox when, during a clothing exchange, he threw his shirt in the face of the officer. The report says Martinez then kicked one of his shoes at the officer’s leg.
Martinez was charged with battery upon a peace officer and aggravated DWI.
Court records do not list an attorney for Martinez.
