The political cartoon on the Herald’s Opinion page on May 21 is shocking in its bad taste. It is insulting in the extreme to the thousands of men: husbands, sons, and brothers, who fought and died for something far bigger than their personal pleasure.
To compare V-J Day (Victory over Japan) with the V-B Day (Victory over bigotry) is like comparing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with chopsticks; the Mona Lisa with a kindergarten painting; War and Peace with a Peanuts comic strip; Einstein’s achievements with a first-grade math solution.
Surely there are better ways to work for the dignity and worth of our citizens.
