Pop Up Playground, new park coming to Pine River Library

Bayfield has a new park on the way, and there will be a groundbreaking kickoff on Saturday, May 20. From 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., the parking lot at the Pine River Library will be transformed into a temporary one-day "Pop-Up Playground."

In partnership with the Bayfield Parks and Recreation Department and Landscape Architecture firm Groundwork Studio, the library will provide an opportunity for children of all ages to build their own playground.

This event celebrates the groundbreaking of the new Pine River Library Park, which will be built this summer. La Plata County Commissioner Julie Westendorff will officially break ground at 10 a.m. and there will be refreshments throughout the day. Additionally, information gathered at the Pop-Up Playground will be used as part of the Master Plan for Parks, Open Space, Trails and Recreation for the Town of Bayfield.

The master plan is being coordinated by Groundwork Studio in Albuquerque. There is a survey for area residents asking them for input into the future of the town's parks and open spaces.

A survey is being offered for both adult and teen residents. A link to the survey is at www.ourbayfieldparks.org
