Firefighters have fully contained a small wildfire that ignited Thursday night east of Lemon Reservoir near Miller Creek Campground.

According to WatchDuty, the 0.3-acre Pound Fire was 100% contained as of 3:10 p.m. Friday.

Upper Pine River Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Greg French said a helicopter from Montrose Upper Pine was called in to work the fire, as well as mutual aid from the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control. Multiple wildfire crews were sent to secure the blaze.

“We were notified by a resident up there that he saw a flame up on the hillside,” French said Friday morning. “We went out last night, and confirmed that it was a wildfire. It wasn't a prescribed burn or burn pile, even though we had a couple burn permits in the area.”

French said the fire may have been caused by a lightning strike, though that was just speculation.
