About 545 Archuleta County residents were out of power Saturday after heavy, wet snow wreaked havoc on fuses and power lines in the area.
La Plata Electric Association released a statement at around 10:30 a.m. saying that 25 isolated outages had occurred.
According to a later press release, as temperatures rose Saturday afternoon, snow began to drop from power lines causing them to bounce, or jump. LPEA’s system will cut power once it perceives a danger to the system as a safety measure to deter further damage. Blinks, or quick, short-lived outages, also were occurring.
By 1 p.m., crews restored power to all but 28 customers in the county. By 3:17, the remaining outages were repaired.
