Power restored to 1,000 customers

Squirrel was the culprit

More than 1,000 customers in Archuleta County were without power Wednesday afternoon for about an hour.

Power was restored to 1,044 customers about 2:05 p.m., LPEA spokeswoman Indiana Reed said in a news release.

“A squirrel gathering acorns took a wrong turn,” Reed said, “and ended up in the Ponderosa Substation of LPEA in Archuleta County, causing circuits to open.”

Crews had been working in the area so were able to respond rapidly, Reed said.

“The squirrel was removed, and the station re-energized quickly,” she said.
