Power restored to more than 1,120 customers in Archuleta County

Power lost early Wednesday morning
JERRY McBRIDE/Durango Herald 2002 01/13/2015- Durango- Bill Holtsford, a journeyman lineman with La Plata Electric Association, uses a long pole and replaces a power line fuse, right that had blown during the storm that cut power to customers.

The lights are back on for more than 1,120 customers who receive power from La Plata Electric Association, which experienced a power outage early Wednesday in Archuleta County.

Around 2 a.m., damaged equipment in the Piedra/La Ventana area, north of Stevens Field, caused the outage, according to LPEA spokeswoman Indiana Reed.

Reed said the equipment was located in a boggy area, which required a professional line locater to arrive on scene to find underground cables and utility lines before heavy equipment could be moved into the area.

Around 7:45 a.m., Reed said crews made repairs to the damaged equipment, which had caused lines to bounce, downing a pole and breaking a cross arm.
