All but one La Plata Electric Association customer affected by the power outage caused by lightning striking a utility pole overnight have their power back as of 12:30 p.m., according to a news release from LPEA.
To restore power, LPEA crews rerouted the circuits. They continue to work at the site to repair the pole east of U.S. Highway 550 and west of Durango-La Plata County Airport.
The pole smoldered and burned throughout the night, and LPEA crews were on site to monitor the incident. No fire spread from the pole.
Around 8:34 a.m., the pole experienced failure and the circuit was de-energized, cutting power to nearby LPEA members.
Twenty-four customers were without power for about four hours.
