Various local groups practice this week for the upcoming big Thanksgiving feast. One of them is the Florida Aspen Club, a women's community service group, which gathers each year at a member's home to eat awesome food and especially to bid on an assortment of goodies to raise money for Christmas assistance to several low-income area families. They met Tuesday at the home of Gary and Sherry Gurholt in the Timberdale Ranch subdivision northwest of Bayfield. Silent auction items included big gift baskets from Lewis True Value and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, a gourmet wine basket, and items from club members, such as handmade placemats, lap quilt, table runner, Christmas cards and decorated gift bags.
Members will meet again in December to assemble Christmas food boxes for families selected through Bayfield Elementary School, plus gifts for the kids and something for the adults.
