Precise language would have helped editorial

I enjoyed reading the May 12 Herald editorial about public lands. It says, “After speeches and getting themselves worked up, a bunch of opponents of the closure then road ATVs through the canyon in deliberate defiance of the ban.”

I have a couple of questions: How many is a “bunch” when describing a group of humans? And if they “road” ATVs, does this mean there was a road there?
