BaseballThe Ignacio High School baseball team (1-4) dropped two tough home games to Sargent in a doubleheader Saturday.
The Bobcats fell 2-1 in the first game and then battled to a 13-11 loss in eight innings of the second game against the Farmers (6-2).
Sargent pitcher Ryan Davis threw a complete game in the opener. He struck out eight and didn’t allow a walk. Ignacio took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Sargent tied it in the fourth inning, as Ignacio catcher Nate Herrera attempted a throw down to third base to try to pick off Trevor Milne, but his throw went off the bat of Frankie Torrez, and Milne came in to score. The unfortunate incident occurred with two outs.
Sargent took the lead in the sixth inning, as Herrera tried to gun down a runner trying to steal second base, but neither the short stop or second baseman were covering the bag to receive the throw. That allowed Milne to once again score.
Kai Roubideaux was the tough-luck losing pitcher in Game 1. He allowed only three hits and walked three batters and struck out eight. Kruz Pardo pitched two innings of relief. He walked two and struck out two and allowed one hit.
Lawrence Toledo went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run. Trave Lovelace was 1-for-3 with a run batted in. Joe and Nate Herrera each went 1-for-3.
Marcus Chapman pitched Game 2 for the Bobcats against Sargent’s Christian Schaller. Sargent jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind three runs in the first and two in the third. Trailing 11-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bobcats rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but the Farmer got two runs in the top of the eighth, and IHS wasn’t able to mount another rally.
Ignacio had eight hits in the game to 13 for Sargent. The game was riddled with errors, as Sargent committed seven and Ignacio had six.
Ignacio will face Meeker at noon Saturday in Rangely before facing Rangely at 3 p.m.
