The second match against Vail Mountain was much tighter, as the Demons fought back from a 2-0 deficit winning the next two games to force a fifth set. In the end, Vail Mountain was able to hold off Durango’s comeback with a 16-14 win.

O’Ketter paced the Demons again, leading them in kills (14) and digs (22) and aces (5). Ammerman had 22 assists, while Taylor Wolf had five blocks.

The Demons (6-9, 2-5 5A/4A Southwestern League) will travel to play Fruita Monument at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11.

“I was really proud of the way we played today,” said Demons head coach Collen Vogt. “It was really fun to come back down 0-2 against Vail Mountain and the fifth set was really good volleyball, despite the loss.”

Centauri 3, Bayfield 1

In the other area volleyball match, Centauri won in four sets in a 3A Intermountain Volleyball league game Saturday afternoon, winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-22.

Tymbree Florian led the way for the Wolverines (3-9, 2-3 IML), as she finished with seven kills, 16 assists and 10 digs.

BHS head coach Terene Foutz said that Florian “put in a senior-level performance.”

Sophomore call-up Macee Schultz had five blocks and also contributed defensively in her first career varsity match.

Jannika Pope led the team with eight kills while Lana McKee finished with 18 digs.

“Today’s match was hard fought, and our improvements are steadily showing up in matches,” Foutz said. “I liked our attack confidence today. We challenged blocks and attacked well under pressure. We definitely forced Centauri to play at a higher level to beat us. It was a good day for Bayfield volleyball.”

The Wolverines will host Pagosa Springs at 6 p.m. Tuesday at BHS.
