A strong start to the 2017 season continued for the Durango High School softball team Saturday.

One day after beating Sierra in a 27-22 game, Durango’s offense kept rolling with a 31-0 win against Mitchell and a 13-3 win against Harrison in Colorado Springs.

The Demons are now 3-0. The next test will come on the road in a tournament at Sheridan High School next week in Denver.

Boys Soccer

Bayfield 4, Kirtland Central 1

Boys SoccerThe continued improvement of the Bayfield boys soccer team was on display Saturday in New Mexico.

The Wolverines defeated the Kirtland Central Broncos 4-1 in Kirtland. It was the season opener for BHS, while Kirtland Central dropped to 1-3 overall.

Last year, the Wolverines went 4-6-4 overall and also defeated Kirtland 7-1. That came a year after BHS finished the season 0-12-1.

Statistics for Saturday’s game at Kirtland were not available.

Volleyball

Pagosa Springs 3, Ignacio 0

The Bobcats faced a tough test to open the season Saturday.

The Class 3A Pagosa Springs Pirates defeated Class 2A Ignacio 3-0 in Ignacio. The Pirates won the sets 25-10, 25-9, 25-12.

Ignacio was shorthanded in the game but worked to stay with the larger school. Sophomore Makayla Howell led the Bobcats with three kills and two blocks. Caity Mulachy had two aces. Howell, Mulachy and Amethyst Egger-Morris all had three digs. Shoshone Thompson led the team with three assists.
