Prep Roundup: Ignacio baseball battles Dove Creek on day of postponements

The Ignacio High School baseball team braved frigid wind and cold temperatures on an otherwise sunny day in Dove Creek. But the chilly weather didn’t cool down the Bobcats.

Ignacio (2-5, 1-2 2A District 3) defeated the Dove Creek Bulldogs 20-2. Timmy Plehinger was the winning pitcher. He gave up three hits and two earned runs in three innings. He walked four and struck out three. At the plate, Plehinger went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs batted in and one run scored.

Trace Loveless went 4-for-4 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored. Zach Weinreich went 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk, an RBI and one run.

Marcus Chapman walked three times and went 1-for-2 in official at-bats. He scored three times and also had an RBI. Rendon Mestas went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Dove Creek fell to 0-9 this season with the loss.

Next up for the Bobcats is a road trip at noon Saturday to Nucla.

Postponements and cancellations

The Bayfield High School baseball doubleheader against Pagosa Springs scheduled for Tuesday was moved to Wednesday. First pitch of Game 1 is slated for 3 p.m. at the Wolverines’ field on the high school campus.

Bayfield will enter the Class 3A Intermountain League opener with a 3-2 overall record. The Pirates are 5-2. The games will be broadcast by Dave Bray on KLJH 107.1 FM.

Bayfield also added a game to its schedule because of an early-season cancellation with Manitou Springs. The Wolverines will host Paonia at 4 p.m. April 14.

The Ignacio High School girls soccer match at Del Norte scheduled for Tuesday was moved to April 20.
