Pricey studios not ‘affordable’

Is it just me or was the information about the new River Roost Apartments stunning? It’s $1,500 for a month’s rent for a 267 to 314 square-foot studio apartment. If you adhere to the guidelines of housing being no more than 30% of income, someone would need to earn $60,000 a year to afford a tiny studio apartment. I just don’t see this as positively impacting the need for affordable – even attainable – housing in Durango.

Just not certain this is something to celebrate unequivocally. It would be lovely if apartments were in the $800 a month range. Then we would have something to celebrate. Just saying! And then they painted them stark white!
