Along with two new campuses, Bayfield schools will have two new principals in the next school year.
Bill Hesford, assistant principal at Bayfield Elementary and Bayfield Primary, will be the new principal at Bayfield Intermediate School. The new campus for third through fifth grades is being constructed on Oak Drive, across from Bayfield Middle School, and is slated to open in August.
Bayfield Elementary Principal Diane Sallinger is retiring at the end of the school year.
Amanda Holden, an educator from the Front Range, will be the new principal at Bayfield Primary School. That school is being renovated for kindergarten through second grade and will be in the Bayfield Elementary building on Mustang Drive.
Working in the new building at Bayfield Intermediate will be “amazing,” Hesford said on Tuesday. He has been at Bayfield Elementary for 12 years, seven as a teacher and five as assistant principal, and also was a basketball coach.
Hesford said he’s looking forward to working with a narrower range of students, mostly 8- to 11-year-olds.
Having students closer together in age “will really help us be more aligned and consistent,” he said.
“I feel very lucky to have had my time here and be able to take the next step in the same district,” he said. “I’ve been supported by the community, and I’m thankful for that.”
Holden worked for seven years as an assistant principal in the Boulder Valley School District and most recently was director of students services with a charter schools network in the Denver area.
