Bayfield senior Kobe Prior ended his high school wrestling career with a win at the Class 3A state wrestling championships.
Prior began Saturday by beating Valley’s Nehemiah Whaley with a pin in the second period of their third round consolation bout. In the consolation semis, Prior lost 7-2 against Moffat County’s Pepper Rhyne.
In the fifth-place match, however, Prior finished on top, pinning Platte Valley’s Brody White in 1:15.
Prior was the only La Plata County wrestler that placed at the state tournament. Teammate James Mars and Jordan Cundiff, Ignacio’s Tyler Barnes and Keaton McCoy, and Durango’s Tyler Woodworth and Jacob Fenberg all lost in the consolation third round Saturday to finish one win short of the podium.
