According to the World Health Organization, maternal mortality surged in Texas between 2010 and 2014. There are consequences to closing clinics. Who knew a pro-life policy would kill?
Turns out it wasn’t Jesus that Texas Republicans were serving. They served themselves and their bank accounts in a state where the incarceration industry brings obscene profits to politicians and corporate executives who enforce a policy of denying low-income women access to reproductive health care.
Add that to a policy of slashing nutrition and education funding to low-income children, and they are sending those children down the cradle-to-prison pipeline, whereby they are the cheapest labor of all.
Essentially, this programmed failure is the legalization of slavery. In the midst of the Zika threat, the Republicans are busily spending our tax dollars to falsely accuse doctors, clinics and scientists of selling fetal body parts for profit.
It is the politicians that are obsessed with controlling women’s fertility to boost their own profits and those of the corporations they serve. These irresponsible politicians encourage violence and encourage pro-lifers to debase and punish young women while taking no responsibility for born children, just like the politicians.
Thank you, Sherry Wilmoth, for speaking up (Durango Herald, Aug. 22).
