We can all agree that safe production of oil and gas in Colorado is incredibly important. Supporters of Proposition 112 would have you believe that a half-mile setback is critical to ensuring the health and safety of Colorado’s residents, but these are just scare tactics.
There is no credible study that shows the proposed half-mile setback is a beneficial distance, according to a state health department study of 10,000 air samples in areas with oil and gas production. Colorado’s state health department also has verified repeatedly that current setback requirements ensure the health and safety of Coloradans. Further, Colorado already has the most comprehensive oil and gas regulations in the country.
So, if Proposition 112 doesn’t provide additional health and safety benefits, why is it on the ballot?
Proposition 112 would only achieve the feat of destroying Colorado’s economy and putting hundreds of thousands of people out of work. Without any real health, safet, or environmental benefit and with very real consequences to our state’s economy, I urge you to vote NO on 112.
