‘Proven problem solver’

Brad Blake

I love La Plata County and feel very blessed to have called it home for over 60 years. Janelle and I both grew up here, raised our family here and owned three successful businesses with hundreds of great employees. I love seeing people, families and businesses thrive!

While serving as your District 1 county commissioner from 2015 to 2018, I served on many boards and commissions that focused on the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of our county. I also worked closely with other elected officials and the public to solve critical problems.

As a commissioner, I supported policy that helped families and businesses succeed, and pushed back on policy that did not. Every policy should be looked at through the lens of “the health, safety, welfare, economic vitality and sustainability of the county.”

My experience in business and as commissioner tells me that this does not always happen. We can all agree that regulation is needed. Unnecessary regulation stifles business, and makes everything more expensive. Common sense, thoughtfulness and balance are paramount in setting policy for our county.

Currently, the county is facing many challenges that require thoughtfulness and a balanced approach. As an experienced leader, I am uniquely qualified to be a problem solver and a creative thinker with a vision for the future success of La Plata County.

Another important factor in being a good commissioner is listening. People that have important questions and concerns need to be heard. Making policy, regulations and law should always include robust conversation, and an open process with the community.

Ultimately, I am very optimistic about the future of La Plata County!

Just think about our great assets and strengths! We have wonderful small towns, robust rural communities and amazing natural resources. We have two truly unique Indian tribes with beautiful cultures. Awesome recreation and outdoor opportunities are abundant. Fort Lewis College, two excellent hospitals and a phenomenal airport add to our quality of life.

The rich history of agriculture and ranching continue to flourish, and support our county. Last but not least, are the hundreds of small businesses, nonprofits and amazing people that hold it all together. This is what makes La Plata County great and why we love living here!

Clearly, there is still a lot of work to do. With my unmatched business and governmental experience and as a proven problem solver with vision, I am the most qualified candidate.

I ask for your vote!

Brad Blake is the Republican candidate for La Plata county commissioner.
