Public gardens are not for private use

As a member of the Garden Club of Durango, I have been one of 30 members who work at our gardens in Santa Rita Park every Tuesday all summer long.

We buy roses, nurture them, feed them and display them for residents and visitors of our community to enjoy.

The city believes that our rose and perennial gardens are the most beautiful public gardens in all of Durango. We also hear that from the many people who visit them frequently.

Yesterday, I caught a woman cutting herself a huge bouquet of roses for her own use! Not only is this illegal in a city park, but mainly incredibly selfish.

We work hard to provide a beautiful garden for all to enjoy, not as personal gardens for one person.

To all the many visitors to our garden that love it as much as we do, please confront and call the police if you see anyone using this public garden as their own private cutting garden.
