Public hearing tonight on river access

Durango’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board could vote tonight on the preferred concepts for four city river access points.

There’s one preferred option for river design concepts for access at Santa Rita Park, 33rd Street and 29th Street. There are two options for Oxbow Park and Preserve, with a drive-in option and a walk-in option.

The parks department held public meetings in May to determine what residents wanted to see at the access sites.

Cathy Metz, Durango parks and recreation director, said the decision the board will have to make at some point is really a policy call. City staff feels comfortable with all of the concepts, which were designed by DHM Design.

“I don’t know if they’ll vote tonight or not,” she said.

Tonight’s meeting starts with an open house at 4:30 p.m. at the Durango Community Recreation Center and the actual meeting starts at 5 p.m. There will be a public hearing for residents to give input on the designs.
