With two games remaining in the regular season, the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team now is two games behind Regis for third place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
Regis beat FLC 81-71 on Saturday night in Denver.
“They got into a rhythm offensively, and they were tough to guard (Friday night),” FLC head coach Jason Flores said in a news release.
Tae’lor Purdy was the Rangers’ rhythm. She scored a game-high 33 points on 10-of-21 shooting, including 5-of-9 from 3 and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. She also had 11 rebounds for a double-double.
“We battled back, and then Tae’lor hit a couple big shots,” Flores said. “She hit those shots, and then it turned the momentum their way. We didn’t have an answer for her (Saturday night).”
Christie Groh led the Skyhawks with 24 points and nine rebounds, and Ashley Kuchar had 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the loss.
“I’m proud of us,” Flores said after a weekend split in Denver. “We battled back, and it’s great that we have that in us.”
FLC (14-10, 11-9 RMAC) will host Western State on Friday and No. 2 and undefeated Colorado Mesa on Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium to wrap their regular season.
