Purgatory Resort delays opening day

Those planning to hit the slopes this weekend at Purgatory Resort will have to wait a little longer.

Purgatory was scheduled to open Saturday, but minimal snowfall and warm temperatures have prevented mountain operations from making enough snow to open as planned, according to a post on Purgatory’s “Purgspective: Operations and Insights” blog.

“We continue to wait for favorable temperatures and a shift in the current weather pattern,” the post said. “As a result, a new projected opening date will be announced after this weekend, once we have a clearer picture of temperatures and snowmaking windows, which look better as we approach Thanksgiving.”

A spokesperson did not respond to requests this week seeking more information.

The blog post said snowmaking teams have been working since last weekend, but conditions have not allowed for adequate coverage.

The post said guests who purchased lift tickets for affected dates can apply their value toward a future purchase.

Wolf Creek Ski Area will open as planned on Saturday with the Nova lift running, providing access to the Susan’s and Nova beginner ski runs.
