I have a suggestion: Swap the Arc of History at the DoubleTree intersection with the piece of artwork that is currently in front of the Durango City Hall. That piece evokes images of biking and mountains, something for which Durango is well known, and would be aptly representative of our fair little burg to visitors passing through said intersection.
Because current city councilors seem to be quite enamored with our $28,000 skewered sandstone shish kebob, placing it in front of City Hall would allow them to see it every day that they go to meetings at city hall. Leave the broken tail section as it is, and angle the piece so that no one bumps his or her head entering or leaving.
Think of it: Visitors and locals alike passing through the 550/160 intersection would get to view a true work of art, and councilors would get a spiritual uplift entering and exiting City Hall, providing them with positive energy with which to govern our chosen place of residence.
I’d call it a win-win situation!
