The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will offer a Christmas tree train excursion this holiday season.

For the second consecutive year, the D&SNG’s Christmas tree train will take guests to Cascade Canyon and back to cut down their own white firs for the holidays. The event is coordinated in partnership with the San Juan Mountains Association.

At Cascade Canyon, SJMA and Firewise of Southwest Colorado volunteers will join D&SNG staff members to help passengers select and cut their Christmas trees in the designated area, which has been carefully selected for hazardous fuel reduction. Volunteers will then tag and load the trees on the train for the return trip to Durango.

In addition to their fares, riders will also need to purchase tree-cutting permits for $8 each. The Christmas tree trains runs Saturday and Sunday as well as Dec. 3-4, and Dec. 10-11.
