With rain on Friday and downpours and a tornado watch on Saturday, the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally dried out on Sunday, with some events delayed from Saturday taking place on the final day of the rally.

A good crowd turned out on Saturday despite threatening clouds, a mid-afternoon downpour, then sun, then more dark clouds approaching from the southwest at around 5:30 and a tornado watch issued that evening. Biker field events on Saturday were moved onto the pavement because the Sky Ute Event Center track was too muddy.

Saturday and Sunday burnout competitions brought lots of applause as bikers drove their rides up against a concrete jersey barrier, then revved their engines to spin the rear tire faster and faster, filling the air with smoke and the smell of burning rubber, until the tire finally popped. Asked about the sense of destroying a tire, a couple bikers insisted it's great fun and worth the sacrifice of a tire.

Information booth volunteers were busy selling raffle tickets for the two motorcycles being given away by the rally, one Indian and one Harley. Sky Ute Casino also gave away one Indian and one Harley.

As of late afternoon Saturday, the beer tent was packed as Ralph Dinosaur took the stage to play his classic rock, heavy on the Rolling Stones. A steady stream of zip-liners zoomed over the vendor area.

Sunday's poker run from Durango to Vallecito, Bayfield and concluding in Ignacio was a benefit for local breast cancer charities, and Sunday night's show featuring Rockin Dopsie and the Zydeco Twisters from New Orleans had the rally tent rocking.
