BOULDER – J.J. Avila scored 19 points, and Daniel Bejarano sealed the victory by grabbing a rebound off a missed free throw in the final seconds, as Colorado State beat Colorado 62-60 on Wednesday night to extend the best start in school history.
John Gillon added nine points, and Joe De Ciman hit both of his 3-point attempts, the second with 1:46 remaining, to help Colorado State (9-0) fend off Colorado (5-3).
Xavier Johnson scored a season-high 20 points to lead the Buffaloes, whose streak of home wins against non-conference opponents was snapped at 23 games. It was the first loss at home of the season for Colorado.
Josh Scott, Colorado’s leading scorer coming into the game with a 16.6 average, got his first points on a pair of free throws pulling the Buffaloes to 51-49 with 6:24 remaining.
