A quarter-acre wildfire that began Wednesday was contained later Wednesday night on Missionary Ridge.
A firefighting crew from the Pagosa District hiked in for mop-up and monitoring duty, while the Columbine District Wildfire Module crew that halted the wildfire hiked out, U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Ann Bond said in a news release Thursday.
The Rappel Fire, as it was named, was started by lightning Wednesday in an area north of Durango that was burned by the Missionary Ridge Fire in 2002.
It was the second wildfire to strike La Plata County in April after the 213 Fire, which burned 60 acres south of Durango. The 213 Fire was extinguished April 15.
