Kohler McInnis is running for re-election as the incumbent candidate in LPEA District 2. He has been doing an excellent job on the board and as the representative on the Tri-State board. This is a responsibility he has executed with thoughtfulness and great integrity.
He is being criticized by his opponent for his vote at the Tri-State board against the LPEA request to increase local generation above the 5 percent allowed under the current contract. However, his vote was a move to prevent a rate increase to LPEA for electricity which would raise the cost to members. As the representative to the Tri-State board, he has a voice to express LPEA concerns to all the Tri-State Coop members. As a member of the board, Mr. McInnis is focused on keeping our electric bills as low as possible and LPEA financially secure.
He is encouraging Tri-State to continue to expand the energy from renewable sources beyond the 30 percent they currently provide. The value of having a knowledgeable LPEA representative on the Tri-State board cannot be overstated. It is curious that the postage for the campaign mailing by Mr. Mannix last week was paid as a non-profit organization. How is this legitimate when the other candidates must raise their own funds?
As a 40-year resident of La Plata County, I am interested in maintaining the LPEA as a strong electric coop. I encourage members in District 2 to re-elect Kohler McInnis.
