Readers write poetry:

Hail the Republican language police

Who recently caused many words to cease

They banned climate science in utter defiance

Of evidence-based logic – itself a contrivance.

They banned COVID and injustice, both clearly outmoded,

Mental health and clean energy, also demoted.

A language with too many words eventually grinds:

Republicans want a simple language for simple minds.

To boost the majority, they gave Black the sack.

Minorities and women – also cut back.

They outlawed Native American, but don’t panic!

They also forbid the word Hispanic.

They kept the words white, male, and men,

We can use those words freely, again and again.

To make America great, they kept the best;

Everyone else is merely a pest.

They might have erased free speech and freedom.

In their New World order, nobody needs them.

They should have purged integrity and honesty,

‘Cause speaking the truth is now against policy.

The awful word equality was wiped from our vocabulary,

Forever banned by the language constabulary.

Among the ones they left was the word democracy,

But it will be gone when they achieve an autocracy.

I’m glad they didn’t ban fool or buffoon

Or declare the word stupidity an invalidity.

I can still use the words lamebrained and idiotic

And call the language police despotic.

In all of human history, banning words

Has worked about as well as lassoing birds.

But they’re trying it again, that righteous red troop,

Marching to leaders full of nincom poop.
