Ready response to opioid abuse needed

Opioid abuse is killing our kids and a more sensible approach, beyond the failed policy of “locking them up,” is taking hold in the judicial system and law enforcement agencies.

Today there is Naloxone, also known as Narcan, a medicine that is carried by an ever increasing number of police officers all over the country. This medicine will save lives and help prevent deaths caused by heroin overdose.

I would like to know the position of those running for district attorney as well as that of the police chief on this matter.

You only have to consider the tragedy of the death of a loved one and the suffering of those left behind to realize that we need this life-saving medicine to be part of the toolkit carried by every law enforcement officer in Durango and throughout the USA.

It is up to us, ordinary citizens, to see to it that this is done. So speak up! You may save a life!
