Ready to Fiesta?

115th annual San Ignacio Fiesta set for next weekend
The 2014 Fiesta Royalty will pass their crowns on to the new queen and attendants next weekend at the 115th annual San Ignacio Fiesta. First attendant Selena Cook and Queen Sage Medicine-Blanket waved to the crowd during this year's Bayfield 4th of July parade.

It's time for fiesta!

The 115th annual San Ignacio Fiesta, one of the older continuous celebrations in Southwest Colorado, will be held next Saturday and Sunday.

This year's theme is "Get in Gear Celebrating 115 Years." The Fiesta is organized by members and volunteers of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

The parade is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, with lineup starting at 9 a.m. at St. Ignatius. All parade entries are welcome, and there is no fee to enter.

After the parade, family events follow at Shoshone Park in downtown Ignacio, including kids games, volleyball, a bounce house, cake walk, snow cones and face painting. Hamburgers, hot dogs and Frito pie will be for sale. Music will be provided by "Big O" DJ Service, with a dance contest and prizes.

The 25th annual horseshoe tournament also starts at the park at 11 a.m.

The annual Southern Ute Community Action Program will hold its duck race that afternoon. For tickets, call 563-4517.

Booth space in the park is still available by calling 749-6830.

The Ignacio Chamber of Commerce will hold its car cruise at 5 p.m. at the old elementary school, followed by a potluck at Fox Fire Farms.

The San Ignacio Fiesta Dance is from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday at Sky Ute Casino, with music by the Spanish Connection and Los Mitotitos. The cost is $15 per person, with a cash bar and concession. The crowning of royalty will be at 10 p.m. Queen candidates are Reyna Cruz, Lainey Espinosa and Chrystianne Valdez.

Fiesta celebrations conclude on Sunday with the Fiesta Mass at 10:30 a.m., followed by dinner at noon. There will be bingo for fun, more music from the Spanish Connection, and the raffle drawing at 2 p.m. For raffle tickets, call 563-4241.
