So here we are. We’ve got a president who’s now openly ignoring an order from the Supreme Court. That should worry everybody, no matter your politics.
He has betrayed the Ukrainian people, siding with murderous Vladimir Putin. He is rewriting history books to ignore the sacrifice of our immigrant and indigenous predecessors. Ignoring scientific accomplishments in curing or preventing illness. Oh yes, “climate change is fake.”
I’ve been reading the letters in the Herald, and a lot of them sound like me, people who are angry about where Donald Trump is taking our country.
And then there’s the Facebook comments. According to some folks on social media, the people gathering in protest at Buckley Park or the courthouse are just “troublemakers” or “paid protesters.” That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Here’s the reality from where I stand: My wife and I have lived and worked in Durango for years. We raised our kids here, sent them through school, watched them head off to college. Our friends and neighbors come from all walks of life, and our lives are richer because of it.
But now we’re standing out in the rain and snow, protesting, because Donald Trump has thrown that future into doubt. In just 100 days, he’s managed to threaten our Constitution and further divide our country. I am not going to just sit by and let that happen. I’ll be at those protests, I’ll make myself heard.
