Recall is not part of the LUC solution

I’m appalled at the effort to recall County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt. She was elected fairly and serves with distinction, and has done nothing illegal or unethical that would warrant a recall.

Many people are upset about the draft revisions to the La Plata County Land Use Code, but recalling one of the three county commissioners – all of whom support revising the LUC – is the wrong approach.

Disagree with the code? The right thing to do is to come to the table, not kick it over. Don’t force a special election that will cost the county nearly $60,000. Instead, express your opinions at LUC meetings and in written comments to county staff and the county commissioners. The current document is a draft, and open for amendment. Share your thoughts and you will influence the outcome.

The county commissioners are acting in good faith, and the final LUC will reflect the values and suggestions of county residents who participate in the process.

So pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves, and be part of the solution.
