Reconsider North Main marijuana shop

We would like to have our objection to the proposed retail marijuana facility at 3473 Main Avenue noted for the record. Quite frankly, we are totally surprised that this is even being considered in this neighborhood with no notification, no newspaper article and no public hearing.

In speaking with a person in the planning office, we discovered that: a) only those within 300 feet of this business were made aware of the proposal, b) the entire “public notification” consisted of a small, typewritten 8 x 11 inch information sheet stuck to a piece of cardboard stuck in the middle of a bush in front of the Cornerstore Building, c) it is immediately next to a family medical practice and d) most importantly – absolutely no hearing will be held!

We are only a block and a half from the area, and in our little cul-de-sac, we have eight children ranging from four months to a high school senior. And, directly behind the Cornerstone are many homes, apartments, condos and rentals with many children residing in them. Oh, and let us not forget the middle school four and a half blocks away on Second Avenue. These things alone should be great concerns for city’s planning, not to mention the potential crime against our properties, children and young adults in this area.

Another thing you might want to consider are the number of robberies (some armed) of just the medical marijuana dispensaries (not even retail stores) that have occurred in this town in the last six months.

Please consider all the potential dangers associated with drug sales and the increased number of people coming from out of town (e.g. New Mexico and Texas, etc.) to make drug purchases – next to our residences.
