I have been a subscriber since 2003 and have seen several changes over the years. After four back surgeries, I am no longer able to walk or stand for any considerable length of time. My back is fused from my neck to my tailbone, so I cannot bend over to retrieve things at ground level. Because the Herald has been delivered to my driveway, I was able to retrieve it with the aid of a grabber.
I do not have a mailbox in front of my home – mail is delivered up the street at a communal mailbox and retrieved by a friend around 5 p.m. You might as well make the paper an afternoon paper, as I will no longer enjoy reading it with my morning coffee. Not to mention my mail carrier, who has faithfully delivered the paper through rain, sleet and snow.
Please reconsider this unilateral decision for those of us who are handicapped.
