Fire danger was high in southern La Plata County and much of western Colorado and eastern Utah on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for much of La Plata County.
Durango and areas north of town were expected to have a relative humidity above 15 percent, excluding them from the warning area, meteorologist Chris Cuoco said.
In general, areas above 8,500 feet in elevation in La Plata County were not included in the warning.
Red flag warnings are based on low humidity, high winds and warm temperatures that can contribute to fires. The high in Durango is expected to be 88 degrees on Tuesday.
In southern La Plata County and other areas of the red flag area, wind is expected Tuesday afternoon.
Breen could see wind gusts up to 30 miles per area, the National Weather Service predicted.
