Red Mountain Pass reopens after crash

State Patrol trooper’s car pulled from snowbank

Red Mountain Pass reopened Tuesday afternoon after being closed for a couple of hours because of a crash.

The Colorado Department of Transportation sent an email about 4 p.m., saying it had reopened. It was closed about 1:30 p.m.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid said a trooper went into a snowbank, and the closure was to recover the patrol car. The trooper was not injured.

CDOT reported falling snow, icy and snow-packed roads on U.S. Highway 550 north of Purgatory Resort. The chain law has been in effect for Coal Bank, Molas and Red Mountain passes since early Tuesday.
